Vice President - Disease Biology & Translational Sciences Septerna

Amer Mirza is a translational science leader with nearly 25 years of experience advancing therapeutics from early research through clinical development. His work has spanned a wide range of disease areas—including oncology, immunology, inflammation, and endocrine disorders—and has always been rooted in the belief that rigorous, well-executed science can improve outcomes for patients.
Across his career, Amer has built and led teams, scaled scientific functions, and supported the advancement of more than two dozen therapeutic programs. He has worked in both large organizations and early-stage biotech, gaining deep experience in moving programs forward within highly matrixed, cross-functional environments. He has established functions from scratch, grown teams across biology, pharmacology, and biomarkers, and shaped translational strategies to support sound clinical development.
A throughline in Amer’s career has been his ability to bridge disciplines—science, clinical development, operations, and business—to keep programs aligned and progressing. He has served as both a functional head and a project team leader, collaborating closely with regulatory, commercial, and platform teams to ensure that early scientific thinking sets up long-term success. He has been trusted to sit on leadership teams, cross-portfolio committees, and joint steering groups where strategy meets execution.
Amer is committed to hiring and mentoring people who are both rigorous and collaborative, taking pride in building teams that can evolve alongside the science. Whether establishing new models, scaling internal capabilities, or partnering with clinical teams to inform development decisions, he brings a balanced, thoughtful, and solution-oriented approach to leadership.
With a background grounded in a deep understanding of disease biology and translational science, Amer remains energized by the opportunity to contribute to organizations building meaningful therapeutic pipelines. He is especially passionate about creating the scientific infrastructure and culture needed to sustain long-term innovation.
